Tuesday 30 Jul, 10:30 a.m. — 11 a.m.

The International Society for Artificial Life supports two primary channels for communicating research findings: the International Conference for Artificial Life and the Artificial Life Journal. At the conferences, researchers can submit abstracts, full papers, or workshop proposals. At the journal, more types of Artificial Life papers are sought (including long-form research papers, fast track papers, reviews, and methods papers). In this discussion group, we would like to gather opinions of the community on the current and alternative submission options. Read more

This is a broad topic of discussion and the details would be dependent upon group interest, but a few potential topics are as follows: How can diverse voices contribute to exploring novel topics in artificial life? What current questions in artificial life can be expanded upon through a queer perspective? (E.g. sexual selection, biological sex, artificial life & art) What is the current culture surrounding LGBTQ+ identities in the ALife community? How can ISAL conferences be more inclusive for LGBTQ+ individuals?

Break-out Group: The Living Keynote

Room: USB.1.006
Chair: Jesus Sequeiros
At ALIFE this year we also have a living keynote which will be constructed by all of us together over the course of the week and delivered on Friday. The theme is “Artificial Life for Society, where now? Where next?” and we hope to use this exercise to get a picture of the whole community’s thinking and ideas on these issues now. The keynote is currently a wall of paper on the first floor outside the lecture theatre to which we invite everyone to contribute their thoughts. Post its, pens etc are provided. We have added some questions to start off with, but please feel free to add your own questions to which you would like to hear the community’s response. Read more
